Reading the result

The total cost is what you pay back minus what you get. With a 1.28 factor rate on $50,000, you pay back $64,000, so the funding costs $14,000. Cost per $1 puts offers of different sizes on the same footing: $0.28 means every dollar you get costs 28 cents.

The payment is the payback spread evenly over the term. Real offers may take payments daily on business days, weekly or on another schedule, and some fees are taken out of the amount you receive. Check both in the written offer.

Comparing offers

  • Compare what reaches your business account after any fees, not just the approved amount.
  • Compare the total you pay back and the cost per $1, not only the factor rate.
  • Check that the payment fits your cash flow on a slow week, not just an average one.
  • Ask how early payoff works; some offers reduce the cost if you pay early and some don't.
